ESOTERIC CHRISTIANITY

Esoteric Christianity focuses on developing the Christ-Within and emphasizes key to transformation of the personality, leading to soul development. The principal tools of Esoteric Christianity are prayer, meditation, and becoming aware of the nonphysical life of the soul. Esoteric Christianity has always understood the transformational power of Wisdom. Judaism has Kabalah; Islam has Sufism and Christianity has its esoteric side, often called Sophianic.  Esoteric Christianity changes the way we perceive the world in which we live.

“What is now called the Christian religion has existed among the ancients and was never absent from the beginning of the human race until Christ came in the flesh. From that time on the true religion which was already in existence began to be called Christianity.” St Augustine

What I'm finding is that those drawn to Esoteric Christianity are those who were raised Christian and have an inner relationship with Christ. But, they left the church because the teachings held no life energy, or made no sense. These students have been exploring different paths, and already know esoteric thought, healing, the evolution of the soul, etc. When they hear the message in terms of Christianity, they are so happy to know there is the hidden side of Christianity that embraces what they have been seeking. The next Sophia, Holy Spirit of Wisdom course will be held on Wednesdays starting September 10th, 2008. If you are interested in the course, please contact Marilyn at 916-812-9496.

Thoughts on Exoteric Religion versus Esoteric Christianity

The world's religions have both an exoteric "outer" and esoteric "inner or mystical" side. So it is with Christianity. Christianity today, for many, has become a focus on celebration of the birth and the death of Jesus the Christ. His birth and death have deeper meaning, when seen from the perspective of the soul's experience on the path of liberation. Esoteric Christianity ponders Christ as the "wayshower"; we, too can strive to live life as the Christ has given example.

"Though religion has come into existence to liberate man from all narrowness, it can itself become a cage when not understood properly. All the worlds’ religions proclaim the same eternal and universal Truth; yet human weakness has a tendency to carve out some limiting, narrow loyalty which closes its gate upon the shoreless and unbounded ocean of love or divinity. It is not the essentials of religions, but addiction merely to their outer forms which has tended to divide man from man, thus thwarting the very purpose of the great founders of the world religions…

. . .Numberless sects, based upon dogmas and beliefs, already divide the world. . .The world needs awakening and not mere verbal instruction; it needs the freedom and the amplitude of divine life, and not the superficiality of mechanized and pompous forms; it needs love, and not the display of power.
